We are so excited to be joining the ATLAS group and are pleased to introduce ourselves. We have four people in our family. Dad - Lamont, Mom – Melissa, and Kids - Rushton and Asia. We have been homeschooling for almost a year and have loved the changes that have come into our home as a result. Here’s a little about the members of our family:
Lamont, known to friends and family as “Mont” or “Montster”, was born and raised in a family that has two passions: Football and the Outdoors. Mont has been a Pittsburgh Steelers fan since he was a toddler and still gets excited over every Steeler’s game. Mont also loves being in the mountains hiking, camping, hunting, fishing, anything as long as he’s surrounded by nature. He is extremely capable in the outdoors and knows what to do in any situation. Our family has always felt safe as long as Dad was with us. Mont loves sharing his love and knowledge of the outdoors with his family and has spent a lot of time teaching us how to be “mountain men”. As a result, his love of the outdoors (and football) has been passed down to our kids. Mont works at Icon and is also a volunteer firefighter on the Newton Fire Department. He is also a Wildland Firefighter and has had many exciting experiences traveling around to fight wildfires.
Melissa has many loves but at the top of the list is her family. She loves spending time with her family, doing things for her family, and plotting all the great things she hopes for her family. Melissa also loves reading, cooking, gardening, playing board games, and hiking and camping with her family. She has loved languages since she was very young and studied French and Spanish before serving a mission to Japan. (Japanese is the most fun!) Melissa has also loved nature since she was young and was very happy to find a husband who wanted his family to spend much of their time outdoors. After living in the big cities of Japan, she is very content to live a quiet, peaceful life near the mountains surrounded by wonderful friends and neighbors.
Rushton is 10 years old and is an amazing kid. He is very sociable and adventurous and is not afraid to do or try anything. He loves being outdoors riding his bike, climbing trees, building forts, exploring, hanging out with friends, and hunting and fishing with the Thomas boys (dad, grandpa, uncles, and cousin). He is often the leader on our family hikes and camping trips and is our designated “starter of the camp fire”. Rushton has always loved animals and is never content with the pets he has but always wants more. He often brings snakes, frogs, lizards, or other creatures home from his outdoor adventures. He once rescued an injured robin and took care of it for several days until it was well enough to survive on its own. Rushton is an excellent “negotiator” and is often found making deals with his family members to get what he wants. Watch out! He also loves playing video games and board games and watching the Philadelphia Eagles play football.
Asia is 8 years old and is the “sweetheart” of the family. She is very tender hearted and loves to take care of all her family members. She often volunteers to help mom cook or clean or run errands. Asia is also very sociable and loves to play with her friends although you will never find her playing with dolls. She is very much a Thomas and spends most of her time outdoors as well, riding her bike, climbing trees, shooting her bow and arrow or BB gun, and building forts, just like her brother. She likes to dress up though, so you will often see her wearing a unique ensemble that she has put together with her nails freshly painted and her hair fixed by herself. Asia loves animals and spends a lot of time with our pets and they absolutely adore her. She especially loves horses and would love to have a horse some day. She already has the cowboy boots and spurs. Asia loves spending time with her dad, especially watching the Steelers play football. She also loves playing around on the piano, listening to music, and dancing in the living room to the radio.
We are very excited to get to know all the great families in this group and look forward to making many wonderful memories with all of you!
