Young Entrepreneurs Project

We learned about...

Thinking Outside of the Box when we
watched the short inspiring film...'Paper Airplane'
by Michael McMillan You can watch it here too
if you'd like...http://www.paperairplanemovie.com/

We learned the difference between Product and
Service Based Businesses - We dressed up like
several different entrepreneurs and sorted them
into each category.  We discovered that some of
these entrepreneurs fit into 'both' categories.

We played Family Feud and found out how
aware we are of many businesses and services
we use every day!

The Vision Quest was really neat.  We visualized
our lives 10+ years in the future...what our lives
would be like, where we would live, what kind of
work we would do, how it would feel, who we
would work with, etc.  Empowering experience...
(ask your kids about it).

We went on to write our own Business Plans
and use the Elements of Business including materials,
material costs, obtaining startup costs, customer base,
and advertising.

Five of our Young Entrepreneurs presented their
personal business plans for the whole class:  Ethan
Nelson, Callie Burrows, Melina McNees, MayRee
Burgess, and Austin Brady.  Way to go!!!

We played The Price Is Right to learn about
the cost of the materials we would be using in
our group's new BUSINESS!!!

Young Entrepreneurs than role-played 'door approaches'
and sharpened their knowledge of sales and marketing.
How would they get the word out?  Who would be their
customers?

After collecting orders and tabulating the materials needed,
we all went shopping for materials (i.e. ingredients).

Production day was a huge event! Our Young Entrpreneurs
produced over 180 lbs. of cookie dough.  Packaging, labeling,
and delivery followed, as well as collecting payment.

Once the loan was repaid, our business owners realized that
the 'company' had made a significant profit.  Many different ideas
were discussed as to how to use the remainder.

A huge congratulations to our Young Entrepreneurs!!!!!!!!!!
They worked very hard on their cookie dough business, and
chose to donate over $200 to the Humanitarian Center
from their net profit.

After receiving a tour and having the opportunity to serve
in the center hands-on sewing quilts, stuffing fleece balls, and
learning how to do an invisible stitch, our Young Entrepreneurs
presented the director of the center with the $216.00 they had
collected.

We are so proud of our Young Entrepreneurs!  It has been a
pleasure to do this project with them.  They are fantastic LOL's!

Christine, Tani, and Nalyn
