American Revolution - Week 3

'Famous people of the day' in their own words...

"Work as if you were to live 100 Years, Pray as if you were to die To-morrow." - Benjamin Franklin

"We must all hang together, or assuredly we shall all hang separately." - Benjamin Franklin

"The cement of this union is in the heart blood of every American." - Thomas Jefferson
"I must study politics and war that my sons may have liberty to study mathematics and philosophy." - John Adams

“Independence forever.” - John Adams' last public words

Colonial Life:  We made cornbread from scratch and talked about fun facts of daily life in Colonial times. (Facts found in Colonial Kids and Felicity's World).

Next, we discussed the Boston Tea Party from The Liberty Tree by Lucille Rech Penner (Landmark Books) and the events leading up to it ...(as we shook up Whipping Cream to make our own butter).
In Stations, we made our Indian 'disguises', our own Tri-Corner hats, and clay pinch pots.  Afterwards we reenacted the Boston Tea Party.  Karina lead the 'Indians', Garren captained the ship full of tea cargo, and Lelia played the part of the British Admiral.
We concluded by eating yummy cornbread, homemade butter and reading When Mr. Jefferson Came to Philadelphia by Ann Turner.
